Age Pryor's creative brief to us was "I want it to look surprising and a bit "broken". It really needs to convey a feeling of discovery. It was an unusual brief - but we got the idea. Age needed to update the site himself including adding images, new songs and videos to the site himself so we linked the site to his Flickr account and youtube channel to save money and maximise the exposure.

Meat the Feeble
Meat production is humankind's least-efficient means of feeding itself.
For every kg of meat that goes to the plate, it took sixteen kgs of grain and soybean feed to put it there. Livestock production accounts for half the fresh water used in industrialised nations.
An affluent, meat-rich diet consumes up to three times more resources than one based on vegetables. Can we ignore this fact in a time when 4,000 kids die each day from lack of safe water?
Producing 1kg of beef results in more CO2 emissions than going for a three-hour drive while leaving all the lights on at home, scientists are saying. So are you really keen to do something to curb climate change? The invitation here is to Eat less meat.
Its easy to begin to remove meat as the main event in your diet. Find out how.

Getting around
How are we getting better at getting around?
Megan rides her EcoBike, we walk to work, bus home, and we take the occassional taxi rather than drive to work. Alto has invested in Biofuel production from algae (poo!) and we are exploring the idea of making our own biofuel.
The killer for us is air travel. Although invited to participate in the Digital Earth 2007 we are choosing to particpate from New Zealand and save 1.3 tonnes of CO2. That one trip would blow an individuals carbon allowance for a year in one week.
Although we understand that there is no such thing as 'offsetting' emissions from air travel (trees can't absorb carbon high up in the atmosphere) we are members of GreenFleet, which we see as a way of reducing the negative impacts of fossil-fuelled travel. GreenFleet plant trees, and invest in alternative transport programmes.

Carbon Neutral or Cheat Free?
The way our society currently functions, there is no such thing as ' carbon neutral'. In a lot of instances in transport and manufacturing, we don't just emit carbon, we pollute.
Fact. Trees can't absorb carbon put into the atmosphere by planes.
If we want to take responsibility for carbon emissions then the best we can do with the current technology is TRAVEL LESS and the second best thing we can do is INVEST in research and development around alternative fuels, which come from waste products rather than grown on arrable land.
Here are some innovators finding new ways of doing things that are less carbon intensive:
Video Conferencing
Webinars
Web based Couriers
International Business models which localise production

A Month in Europe
Megan has just returned from a month in Europe. It was a bit of a whirlwind tour, 5 countries in 4 weeks. The whole of Europe was both footy mad and everything was 'under contruction'. These were re-occuring themes throughout the trip which she has documented in a million photos. Please note: Flickr is a broadband experience.

Its an opportunity to work on projects and create things with no monetary value but mean something to us. Check out some of our creations.

“Brackets W”, a online interactive museum dedicated to women who have served in the armed services.
Brackets W is an eclectic mix of items and seeks to capture and reflect the lives of women who have served across all services, in all countries and throughout history. It reflects both the official version of women’s service and some very unofficial perceptions.
We created a fantasy world, a surprising atmosphere in which to discover and explore the collection. |
